Former Miss Oklahoma 2011 and the 1st Runner-Up to Miss America 2012, Betty travels the country sharing her story and success programs at local, state and national conventions, conferences, banquets, leadership workshops for youth, women’s ministries, businesses, dairy industry events, civic organizations and charities. She has also recorded radio promotions and TV commercials in the Midwest. Betty also performs her award winning Irish dancing at banquets, parades, festivals and other functions.
Some of her most recent clients include 4-H, FFA, YWCA, American Association for University Women, Oklahoma State University, Lion’s Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Wisconsin Dairy Business Association, Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy, Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Accelerated Genetics, Farm Credit, American Farmers and Ranchers, and numerous churches.
During her year as Miss Oklahoma, Betty promoted her personal platform of Milk, It Really Does a Body Good with organizations such as Dairy Max and Southwest Dairy Farmers. She is actively involved in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, the New Look of School Milk Campaign as well as Mobile Dairy Classroom. Through her involvement in the industry, Thompson has spoken at numerous dairy conferences and conventions including more than 10 state and national events.
Traveling nearly 30,000 miles across the state of Oklahoma and presenting her program “The Road to Success” at more than 200 school assemblies, Thompson strives to motivate students to set goals for their life, make healthy life decisions and have self-respect. The program also emphasizes drug and alcohol awareness and prevention.
Betty’s involvement in 4-H and FFA in her youth have also led her to stay involved with both organizations. She spoke at the 2011 Oklahoma State 4-H Round-up, 2012 Northeast District Youth In Action Conference, 2012 Southern Region 4-H Volunteer Conference as well as other 4-H events. She was a breakout session presenter at the 2012 Oklahoma State FFA Convention as well as a leadership workshop presenter at the FFA Leadership Conference.
Thompson dances with the world known McTeggart Irish Dancers under the instruction of her teacher Maureen McTeggart Hall and Rebekah Roberts. She was the first Oklahoman to reach the open championship level, the highest level of competitive Irish dance. She has qualified for the World Irish Dance Championships seven times and represented Oklahoma and the USA five times, and will compete again in the 2013 World Irish Dance Championships in Boston (only the second time ever to be held in the US). Thompson has also competed in the All-Ireland Irish Dance Championships and the North American Irish Dance Championships four times where she became the first Oklahoman to medal at both. She has performed with the Chieftans, Riverdance fiddler Eileen Ivers, and Natalie McMaster in numerous concert halls across Oklahoma and Texas. In the 2012 Miss America Pageant, Thompson won the talent preliminary award with her Irish dancing.
Thompson is working on her second degree at Oklahoma State University. Her first degree was in Elementary Education and she is now pursuing a degree and career in Agricultural Communications.
Betty is the daughter of Robert and Janine Thompson. She and her siblings Brian, Shelley, Kevin and Nathan grew up on the family Jersey farm in Lincoln County Oklahoma. She is the aunt to six beautiful nieces and 2 handsome nephews.
